i would be curious to see if you car will run off another cars charge. also, if you get to the point of troubleshooting your car, check starter relay (passenger side wheel well). far shot, but this happened to me. i had an alternator terminal ring break on me before(old wire broke at the terminal ring upon alternator reinstall). re-ringed and was good to go. this is probably not your problem as you were good to go before stereo install but if you had messed with the harness at all (yanking, pulling, etc) and it wasnt new then i would check it. or if the install is recent, then i would recheck the terminal seating on the alternator for security and integrity.
